• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or hot, depending on your preference)
• Around 12 Melrose peppers seeded (or more if preferred!)
• ¼ cup diced onions
• 4tbsp dry white wine
• 6 Turano French Rolls
1. Brown the Sausage: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sausage links and cook, turning occasionally,
2. Sauté the Vegetables: Add the Melrose peppers and onions to the same skillet. After 2 minutes, add the white wine. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
3. Simmer with Sausage: Cook until the sausage is cooked through and the vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Toast the Bread: Toast the bread in the oven if desired
5. Assemble the Sandwiches: Fill each roll with a sausage link and a generous portion of the peppers. Serve immediately.
Tips and Variations
• Cheese:
Add a slice of provolone or mozzarella cheese on top of the sausage and peppers in the last few minutes of cooking to let it melt.
• Spice Level:
If you prefer a spicier sandwich, use hot Italian sausage and a pinch of red pepper flakes in the vegetable mixture.
